Proline - T3 disease control
Protecting quality and yield in winter wheat at T3 - choosing the right fungicide at T3 is critical
There are many ear and flag leaf diseases which threaten wheat quality and yield potential at T3. It is critical to identify and prioritise disease risks to make the right fungicide choices. When deciding on your T3 approach for 2007, consider the following factors:
The very warm dry spring has advanced crop growth stages with flag leaves emerging 10 days earlier than usual. Now that the recent rains have alleviated water stress, the time from ear emergence to harvest interval could be significantly longer than normal. With the new EU mycotoxin legislation in place and the risk of ear Fusarium and mycotoxin contamination, only the strongest Fusarium product will protect yield and reduce the likelihood of costly grain rejection.

Relative Crop Disease Risks from Ear Emergence
| Foliar Top Up | Ear Disease Complex |
| SEPTORIA - After a slow start pressure is increasing. Should be managed at T1 & T2, may be important to control at T3 if wet weather delays crop ripening (usually in the North). | FUSARIUM EAR BLIGHT - Dry warm weather in the early May and April was conducive to development of inoculum on trash and stem bases. Rain at crop flowering could result in record disease pressure and mycotoxin risk. |
| BROWN RUST - High risk in south and midlands on susceptible varieties. Tends to be well controlled by T2 fungicides. | MICRODOCHIUM (Non-toxin producing Ear Blight) - Dry spring has favoured disease development on stem bases. Is selectively controlled by some fungicides, resulting in increased true Fusarium and mycotoxin contamination. |
| YELLOW RUST - continued threat on Robigus flag leaves and glumes especially if cool and humid. | GLUME BLOTCH (S. nodorum) - Declined in recent seasons, occurs sporadically in south west. Now considered of minor importance. |
SOOTY MOULDS - Affect grain appearance and quality, risk if harvest delayed due to wet weather.
