Seed Treatment

Deter

Deter is the latest seed treatment from Bayer CropScience, with the highest levels of lasting activity on the widest pest spectrum.

Deter targets:

Benefits:

  • Protecting the moment crops are sown
  • Improved establishment of lower seed rates
  • Robust application rate
  • Reduces follow up treatments
  • Targets a wider pest spectrum
  • Co-formulations with the new fungicides
  • Eases pressure on field monitoring
  • Follow-up applications, if required, can be timed to avoid other commitments
  • No LERAP means protection right up to the field edge
  • Minimal exposure risk to operator and environment when used correctly
  • Reduces in-field waste, washings and packaging disposal

Specification:

Formulation

A flowable concentrate formulation for seed treatment containing 250 g/l clothianidin.

Crops

Winter sown crops of wheat, barley, oats, rye, durum wheat and triticale

Rate of use

200ml product per 100 kg seed (= 2.0 litre per tonne of seed).

Spectrum of Activity

Aphids, BYDV, slugs (grain hollowing), wireworms, leafhoppers.

Seed quality

Do not use on seed with more than 16% moisture content, or on sprouted, cracked, skinned or otherwise damaged seed.

ApplicationDeter must be co-applied with a suitable fungicide seed treatment, e.g. Redigo Twin, Raxil Pro, to protect against seed and soil-borne disease.
Deter must only be used in conjunction with Bayer CropScience approved seed treatment application equipment by following the procedures given in the operating instructions. ALWAYS follow the operating instructions.
Ensure that Deter is homogeneous before use. Where necessary, the product should be fully re-dispersed using a re-circulating pump or mechanical agitator.
Deter should be evenly applied using a Bayer-recommended seed treatment machine that has been accurately calibrated to obtain the correct dose rate.
The simultaneous application of Deter with a small volume of water may improve evenness of coverage of treated seed, depending on the type of seed treater used and processing conditions.
After use, the product application equipment should be thoroughly cleaned using clean water.
Drilling of
treated seed
It is essential to check drill calibration before use and again for treated seed each seed lot drilled to ensure an accurate seed rate. Deter treated seed should be drilled at 4 cm (1.5") depth into a well prepared and firm seedbed providing optimal conditions for crop emergence and establishment, using a minimum drilling rate of 125 kg/ha. Any spilled seed should be removed or buried.
Adverse seedbed conditions such as very dry, fluffy, cloddy or capped seedbeds, water-logging, drilling too deep or too shallow, the use of seed with low germination capacity/vigour and residual herbicides can reduce the field emergence or cereals. This may be accentuated by Deter.
Storage of treated seed

Keep seed in a cool, dry ventilated building. Drill as soon as possible after treatment and within the season of treatment.
