Folicur remains the best product for canopy management and light leaf spot control in oilseed rape crops. Compared with rival products, Folicur gives you:

• More effective canopy management
• More effective light leaf spot control
• 2% oil content boost
• All at a lower input cost

Management of the crop canopy by azoles produces a number of benefits for the grower:

• Far less risk of lodging
• Increased light penetration for pod filling
• More even ripening with less pod shatter
• Easier to swath and combine
• More uniform product
• Higher yield potential

In 2001, HGCA carried out trials to investigate the effect of azoles on a range of thick and thin canopies in spring. Deliberate late drilling with high or low seed rates led to a variety of canopy types.

To see if your crop will benefit from Folicur, you need to calculate the Green Area Index (GAI). According to HGCA any crop with a GAI of 1 or greater will give an economic response to a PGR treatment.

To calculate the GAI you need to:

• Harvest all above ground OSR growth in a 1 m2 patch
• Weigh the freshly harvested crop in kgs
• GAI = Fresh weight in kg X 0.8

Independent trials over many years have shown Folicur produces significant increases in oilseed rape yield in the absence of disease. These increases are directly attributable to Folicur’s PGR activity. That’s a major advantage over flusilazole, which has no PGR effect.

In addition, Folicur also positively affects the crop oil content. In a NIAB trial (Gwent 1999) across five different rape varieties, the inclusion of a springtime application of Folicur increased oil content from an average of 40.43% to 42.46%.
