Cerone is the plant growth regulator (PGR) that we would recommend as a second spray in a programme to ensure maximum stem strength and to help prevent lodging. Cerone is consistently the best PGR to use at T2 in winter wheat and both winter and spring barley.
Cerone is the best product to use at T2, ensuring reduced height, increased stem diameter, and increased stem strength. Using Cerone as part of a programme provides maximum insurance against lodging and can help to prevent yield losses of anything up to £100 per hectare. Using a T1 treatment alone has much less effect on crop height and stem stiffness.
To get the best from Cerone, we recommend that you use it after a robust T1 PGR such as a Moddus * (trinexapac-ethyl) + CCC mix. In wheat you can apply Cerone between GS 32 and GS 37, but the most effective timing is GS 37. For barley, apply Cerone at T2 (GS 37 – 49) when the flag leaf is just visible and up to and including first awns. Ensure that you have the right dose for the lodging risk involved.
Cerone should be used at T2 as part of a programme following a robust T1 PGR treatment.
