Pollen beetle forecast identifies the start of beetle migration and main period of migration risk, for winter oilseed rape

Late drilling and wet weather has meant that many winter wheat crops did not recieve a residual herbicide last autumn in northern and western areas of the UK; areas where annual meadow grass and broad-leaved weeds are the main weed problem.

Pollen beetle migration into oilseed rape crops has started in the South East of England, according to the Bayer Pollen Beetle Predictor. The tool, which has been developed by proPlant, also showed that migration was due to start in the South West imminently last week [8 March].

Pollen Beetle Predictor is now showing that migration across most of England is 30% to 50% complete.
