1) Will Deter (clothianidin) seed treatment, control gout fly?
Independent trials results have shown that Deter seed treatment can provide some protection from early gout fly attack. Pyrethroids applied in the autumn for BYDV control can also reduce damage caused by this pest.
2) Can Liberator (flufenacet + DFF) be used on winter crops of rye and triticale?
Yes there are is a SOLA (specific off label approval) for the pre and post-emergence application of Liberator to both these winter-sown crops. Growers should be reminded that the use of SOLAs is entirely at their own risk.
3) Is it OK to apply Liberator in these current hot dry conditions?
Yes Liberator is fine to be sprayed in this current warm dry spell. We would expect Liberator to be activated by rainfall and trials have shown that Liberator can still be effective even if rainfall does not arrive for up to 17 days. Liberator is most effective when applied within 48 hours of drilling.
4) Will Liberator control volunteer linseed?
Feedback from field experience has suggested that Liberator can have a useful effect on reducing the establishment of volunteer linseed. However, for complete control we would still expect that a post-emergence application of a fluroxypyr-based herbicide will be required.
5) Can Liberator be applied at crop 'peri-emergence'?
Yes Liberator is safe to apply at this crop timing. However, it should be noted that for maximum effect on difficult to control grasses, such as black-grass, Liberator is best applied within 48 hours of drilling.
